BAPTISM AND RECEPTION OF FIRST HOLY COMMUNION AT LORETO GIRLS’ JUNIORATE, ERIAM AFAHA OBONG, ABAK

SUNDAY, OCTOBER 18, 2020; SUNDAY, OCTOBER 25, 2020

In preparation for the worthy reception of the sacraments of baptism and First Holy communion, the Chaplain, Rev. Fr. Michael Ubong Inyang administered the sacrament of reconciliation for the first time between the sixteen candidates while the choir ministered to the Congregation with inspiring/melodious songs. The occasion was graced with parents of the candidates for First Holy Communion, Handmaids of the Holy Child Jesus, members of staff and students of Loreto Girls’ Juniorate.

All the students were well dressed in the Sunday wears (Gowns made with customized Ancilla wrappers), covered shoes and as it is the order of the day – face shields or masks. All the candidates for First Holy Communion wore white dresses and veils as the tradition of the Roman Catholic Church demands. The candidates had lighted candles in their hands which served as a reminder to them to let the light of Christ illumine their hearts. It was indeed a great day!

The homily was centered on the readings of the day from the prophet Isaiah 45: 1. 4-5, a letter to the Thessalonians 1:1-5 and the Gospel of Matthew 22:15-21. The theme was “Justice”. The priest explained the reason why justice is an exercise of faith, hope and love. He defined justice as giving to someone what rightly belongs to him or her, “Treating others in fairness and kindness as you will want others to treat you”.

The second part of the Holy Mass was the climax of the occasion, when the candidates knelt for the first time at the rail of the sanctuary and received the Body and Blood of Jesus Christ under the appearance of bread and wine with their lighted candles. It was beautiful to have new communicants added to the fold of our Mother Church.

What a wonderful day!

The occasion ended with some remarks by the principal, Sister Theresa Ashi, HHCJ. She appreciated the efforts of all who helped the children to attain such heights especially the chaplain, the Sisters who prepared the candidates through catechism classes, their God-parents and even their biological parents who allowed them to participate in the exercise.

To God be the Glory!
